Chemo patients... How long did you wait till you cut your hair?

I am on week 4 of methotrexate. My hair is thinning fast. I already cut it to shoulder length, but it's starting to look bad. I keep hoping the hair loss will stop, so I dont cut my hair.

How long did you wait till you cut your hair? Did you cut it close or shave it off? Did you get a wig?

This may sound superficial to some of you, but unless you've gone thru it, you have NO IDEA what it's like. Battling body issues was not something I expected to come up with this, but it has.

There's nothing superficial about your problem, it's completely normal. My brother waited about 2 weeks before they shaved his head. A friend who had breast cancer waited about 4 weeks and then had her hair dresser shut down her shop for the afternoon. Before that appointment she went to a good wig shop and found a few good quality wigs to wear. She went to hair dresser and no one saw her come or leave (that was a big deal to her). They shaved her hair totally off and she wears a wig to work and church and around town. At home however she wears big hats or scarves because wigs can get really hot. I hope that helps, I thought the hair dresser was a good idea and I know it made her feel a lot better. I hope you get well very soon.

Alot of people I know opted to cut their hair off and use a wig, or they used a pretty scarf as a head wrap

Well my step-sister just had breast cancer and it took maybe 3 months and all her hair came out. So she wore a wig when she went to chemo then in the hospital for surgery. Around the house she didn't ware a wig. She wasn't up much and never said a word. I really felt bad for her. She still going through chemo but its not so much so her hair is growing back. I'm sure sorry for what your going through. God bless you and your family.
